The year began with exciting news from Brest. ICARUS Sports and the ARKÉA ULTIM CHALLENGE will be sailing around the globe together for the next 50 days. The unique offshore race started on 7 January in Brest, France.
The “Giants of the Seas“, foiling trimarans measuring 32m x 23m, called Ultimes, set off from Brest in a race like no other. The skippers sail solo and nonstop on the traditional route from west to east, leaving the three great capes to port. Along the way they will have to cope with all the adversities of nature, extreme conditions, gale force winds, icebergs, exhaustion and lack of sleep. It is a race that will test their skills and their limits. The winner is expected back in Brest after 45-50 days.
ICARUS Sports will contribute to the success of the ARKÉA ULTIM CHALLENGE – Brest by distributing news content to newsrooms and news agencies around the world as well as highlights videos to online media until the end of the fascinating race. The event will be featured in 2 episodes of the widely popular TV show “Inside Sailing“.
Christoph Stadler, Business Development Manager at ICARUS Sports, said: “We are proud to be part of this amazing journey and honoured to present the images of the skippers´ superhuman achievement to a global audience. So far, only 4 people have managed to do what these 6 intrepid skippers have set out to do. To put this into perspective, three times as many have set foot on the moon.”
