The Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup Sets Sail for Its Eighth Edition
NEWPORT, R.I. — The enduring allure of the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup is most evident in the teams and sailors from around the globe that return to this seaside city every two years to compete in sailing’s premiere Corinthian big-boat regatta. With the eighth edition set to commence on Tuesday, September 12, and extend over five exciting days, the spotlight is on the event’s rich history and the fierce competition it hosts.
The Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, a biennial regatta hosted by the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in Newport, R.I., has consistently drawn top amateur sailors from 51 of the world’s most prestigious yacht clubs representing 22 countries since its inception in 2009. In the 2023 edition, the third of its kind, the event will be contested in the IC37 class, designed by Mark Mills. The strict one-design specifications of this purpose-built class, coupled with each boat being owned and maintained by the New York Yacht Club, guarantee a level playing field unmatched in any other amateur big-boat sailing competition.
The regatta, scheduled from Saturday, September 9, to Saturday, September 16, will feature racing action commencing on Tuesday, September 12. For enthusiasts worldwide, a live broadcast on Facebook and YouTube, starting on Wednesday, September 13, will provide real-time access to the thrilling events on the water. The 2023 edition will see nineteen teams from 14 countries competing in the quest for glory.
