Uno nuovo team lancia la sua sfida alla prossima America's Cup: Red Bull, infatti, unirà le forze con Alinghi due volte vincitore dell'America's Cup, con l'obiettivo di aggiudicarsi il più antico trofeo dello sport internazionale.
Il fondatore di Alinghi Ernesto Bertarelli e il due volte campione Olimpico Hans Peter Steinacher hanno annunciato il lancio dell'Alinghi Red Bull Racing e ne hanno presentato il logo alla Société Nautique de Genève, lo yacht club che il team rappresenterà. In occasione di questo speciale annuncio, anche Christina Horner, il Team Principal del team di Formula 1 Red Bull Racing, ha partecipato all'evento in diretta via satellite.
Ginevra – Svizzera – Dopo un'assenza di oltre dieci anni, Alinghi, uno dei nomi più iconici nella storia dell'America's Cup, torna a combattere per il più prestigioso trofeo velico. Questa volta il team vincitore per due volte consecutive è partner di Red Bull, forza trainante nel mondo dello sport internazionale. L'Alinghi Red Bull Racing, portacolori della Société Nautique de Genève, da inizio da subito ai preparativi per partecipare come Challenger ufficiale alle regate di selezione per la 37esima America's Cup in programma nel 2024.
“Pur mantenendo lo spirito vincente che ha sempre animato Alinghi, per questa sfida vogliamo fare qualcosa di totalmente diverso, completamente nuovo e innovativo”, ha affermato il fondatore di Alinghi Ernesto Bertarelli. “Quando con Dietrich Mateschitz abbiamo immaginato il coinvolgimento di Red Bull nell'America's Cup, lui ha detto: la nostra filosofia non è quella di entrare nello sport come sponsor, ma quella di fonderci nella squadra, dando vita a una vera partnership, facendo crescere giovani atleti e trasformandoli nei migliori nel loro campo. Dietrich ha anche proposto di contribuire a dare una nuova dimensione alla stessa America's Cup “.
Bertarelli ha così proseguito: “Con Red Bull siamo partner alla pari in questa impresa. Alinghi e Red Bull sono da tempo rivali sportivi in eventi come il GC32 Racing Tour e le Extreme Sailing Series. Dopo aver condiviso rispetto e ammirazione reciproci per molti anni, Hans Peter Steinacher, due volte campione olimpico nella classe Tornado e atleta austriaco di maggior successo nella categoria sport estivi, è entusiasta della nuova partnership.
“L'America's Cup è l'evento velico più importante al mondo”, ha affermato la leggenda della vela, che è stato un leader nello sviluppo della prossima generazione di velisti come co-fondatore della Red Bull Youth America's Cup e della Red Bull Foiling Generation. “L'esperienza e lo spirito di squadra di Alinghi sono unici nello sport della vela. Nella collaborazione con Alinghi, Red Bull porta con sé anche l'esperienza della sezione Red Bull Advanced Technologies, che ha supportato la Red Bull Racing nel raggiungimento di un totale di cinque Campionati Piloti Formula 1, compreso l'entusiasmante trionfo appena ottenuto da Max Verstappen nell'ultimo giro della stagione 2021 – oltre ai quattro Campionati Costruttori F1.
Fresco della finale di Formula 1, parlando in diretta via satellite, il Team Principal della Red Bull Racing Christian Horner, lui stesso un game-changer negli sport motoristici, ha dichiarato: “Diamo il benvenuto ad Alinghi Red Bull Racing nel mondo Red Bull. Il nostro team di F1 non vede l'ora di collaborare con questo nuovo membro della famiglia per raggiungere il successo. Red Bull Advanced Technologies è un centro altamente tecnologico, che offre servizi a una varietà di sport ed altri settori, ma in particolare alla Red Bull Racing. Brad Butterworth, quattro volte vincitore dell'America's Cup, ha commentato: “Sono con Alinghi da 20 anni ed entrare in questa nuova sfida con Red Bull è veramente emozionante. L'America's Cup è una regata tecnologica che si vince sull'acqua con la strategia di gara e la tattica. Red Bull lo ha dimostrato più e più volte in F1 e in molti degli altri sport in cui è coinvolta”.
Tra i team che Alinghi Red Bull Racing si prepara ad affrontare ci sono il Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand, quattro volte vincitore dell'America's Cup e il Challenger of Record, INEOS Britannia. Il periodo di iscrizione è stato aperto soltanto all'inizio di dicembre, quindi gli appassionati di vela possono aspettarsi l'annuncio di ulteriori challenger nel prossimo futuro.
In concomitanza con l'America's Cup, Alinghi Red Bull Racing schiererà le sue squadre anche al debutto della Women's America's Cup, nonché nella Youth America's Cup. “Fare crescere lo sport e i suoi velisti è sempre stato un obiettivo importante sia per Red Bull che per Alinghi. Quindi l'impegno di Alinghi Red Bull Racing in queste regate sarà importante e penso che vedere questi talenti in azione sarà fonte di ispirazione”, ha affermato Steinacher.
Alinghi Red Bull Racing avrà il suo quartier generale vicino a Losanna, a Écublens, in Svizzera, dove lo scafo dell'AC75 sarà costruito secondo i requisiti previsti dal Deed of Gift, il regolamento ufficiale dell'America's Cup. Un equipaggio base guidato da Arnaud Psarofaghis, il co-skipper del GC32 di Alinghi, e dal randista Bryan Mettraux inizierà ad allenarsi durante il periodo invernale per preparare un equipaggio al 100% Swiss Made.

New alliance formed in next campaign for oldest trophy in global sport
A new team will be challenging for the next America's Cup, as Red Bull joins forces with double America's Cup–winning syndicate Alinghi in a campaign for the oldest trophy in international sport. Here is all you need to know:
-After an absence of over a decade, one of the most dynamic names in the history of the America's Cup, Alinghi, is returning to battle for sailing's pinnacle honour, and this time the twice consecutive–winning syndicate is partnered by a driving force in global sport, Red Bull.
-Sailing under the flag of the Société Nautique de Genève, Alinghi Red Bull Racing begins preparations immediately to race as an official challenger when the Selection Series for the 37th America's Cup begins in 2024.
-“While keeping the winning spirit that has always animated Alinghi, we want for this challenge to do something totally different, totally new, totally fresh,” said Alinghi founder Ernesto Bertarelli. “When we imagined with Dietrich Mateschitz the involvement of Red Bull in the America's Cup, he said: Our way is not to get into the sport as sponsors, but to blend into the team, to form a true partnership, to nurture young athletes and turn them into the best in their field. He also proposed that we should make contributions to give the America's Cup itself a new dimension.”

-Alinghi and Red Bull have long been friendly rivals in series such as the GC32 Racing Tour and the Extreme Sailing Series. Having shared this mutual respect and admiration, Hans Peter Steinacher, a two-time Olympic champion in the Tornado Class and Austria's most successful summer sport athlete, is enthusiastic about the new partnership.
-“The America's Cup is – and by volumes – the most important sailing event in the world,” said the sailing legend, who has been a leading presence in developing the next generation of sailors as co-founder of the Red Bull Youth America's Cup and Red Bull Foiling Generation. “Alinghi's experience and team spirit are unique in the sport of sailing. All of Red Bull is behind this project, and I doubt it could have been done with another team.”
-In partnering with Alinghi, Red Bull also brings the expertise of the Red Bull Advanced Technologies unit that has supported Red Bull Racing in achieving a total of five Formula One Drivers' Championships – including the thrilling triumph just secured by Max Verstappen in the last lap of 2021 – as well as four F1 Constructors' Championships.

The America's Cup is a technology race which is won on the water with race strategy and tactics. Red Bull has demonstrated that time and time again in F1 and in many of the other sports it competes in.”
-Among the teams that Alinghi Red Bull Racing will prepare to face are the defender, four-time America's Cup winner Emirates Team New Zealand, as well as the challenger of record, INEOS Britannia.
-Because the entry period opened only at the beginning of December, sailing enthusiasts can expect the announcement of additional challengers to extend over the next weeks and months.
-In conjunction with the America's Cup, Alinghi Red Bull Racing will also field teams in the debut of the Women's America's Cup Regatta, as well as in the return of the Youth America's Cup.
-“Growing the sport and its sailors has always been an important focus for both Red Bull and Alinghi. So Alinghi Red Bull Racing's commitment to these regattas is strong, and I think it's going to be inspiring to see these talents in action,” said Steinacher.
-Alinghi Red Bull Racing will headquarter its operations near Lausanne, in Écublens, Switzerland, where the hull will be built according to the requirement of the Deed of Gift, the governing document of the America's Cup.
-A core crew led by Alinghi's GC32 coskipper Arnaud Psarofaghis and mainsail trimmer Bryan Mettraux will begin training during the winter period to prepare a 100% Swiss Made crew.
