Formula Kite World Championship

After two days dedicated to the Wing & Paddle Festival and the Green Village of the Open Water Challenge, the great world adventure begins with the Marina di Torre Grande as the great protagonist.

From Monday, 11th to Sunday, 17th of October the waters of the Gulf of (Sardinia) are hosting the kites of the strongest athletes in the world, that spectators can freely admire from the beach. The Formula Kite World Championship is an event of great international importance for sport because for the first time in Sardinian waters, during the competition the athletes will have to comply with the format of the Paris Olympics 2024.

The Program:
Tuesday 12th October – Free Practice; at 6:00 pm, Opening Ceremony;
From Wednesday 13th to Sunday 17th – at 10:00 am Riders’ Meeting and at 11:00 am Departure of the Formula Kite World Championship, qualifying phases.
Sunday 17th October- at 11:00 am Final Stages; 4:00 pm Awards Ceremony and 5:00 pm Closing Ceremony.

The Wing & Paddle Festival took place on Saturday, 9th and Sunday, 10th of October. There were 80 participants in the funniest and most exciting Festival for SUP and wing lovers, and everyone battled until they reached the waters of the ancient city of Tharros, in San Giovanni di Sinis.

Saturday, 9th of October: In the SUP race, for the men’s category the winners were Tommaso Pampinella, Massimo Giglione and Giuseppe Carboni. In the women’s category, the winners were Simona Atzori, Valeria Scanu, Valentina Casula. In Wing Foil competition, the new aquatic discipline, the winners were Gianluca Marcis, Nicolò Spanu and Nicolò Carpini.

Sunday 10th of October: The first to win the Long Distance SUP were Tomaso Pampinella, Giuseppe Carboni, Fabrizio Cardia. In the Long Distance Wing Foil the winners were Nicolò Spanu, Gianluca Marcis, Matteo Spanu.

The Green Village was a great success for the public: several gurus of green thinking took turns on stage to talk about sport, the environment, environmental sustainability, marine species protection but also sea economy and projects aimed at environmental protection. Among the guests were the IMC, the Sinis Mal di Ventre Marine Protected Area, the CNR-CReS, MedSea, SeaMe, LegaCoop, Flag Pescando, the Ceas and the Social Cooperative in Sinis, FAI, Italian Environment Fund.
